La Vista Motel and El Piñon Celebrate Pride with Rooftop DJ Set and Signature Cocktail
Denver Disco Legend Gary Givant Takes the Patio for an Afternoon of Music, Community, and a Custom Pride Drink
DENVER, CO — La Vista Motel and El Piñon are celebrating Pride Month with an afternoon rooftop party on Saturday, June 27, from 2 to 6 p.m., featuring Denver DJ Gary Givant spinning disco on the upstairs patio and a custom Pride cocktail crafted to celebrate the whole month of June.
Givant has been a fixture of Denver's nightlife scene since 1980, when he arrived in the city and landed his first residency at The 1942 on Broadway. Over the decades, he has held residencies at some of Denver's most iconic venues, including Tracks Denver, The Foxhole, The Metro, Xbar, The Church, Milk Bar, and was the original resident DJ at Club Vinyl when it opened in 1993. He first stepped behind the decks at 18 in 1977, after sneaking into clubs at 16, and hasn't stopped DJing since.
El Piñon's Pride cocktail for the month of June, the GiGi-a-GoGo, was created in honor of the afternoon's headliner. The name is a nod to GiGi, the name Gary was given by the LGBTQ+ community as a young man growing up in Lowa, a combination of his initials that has stayed with him. The drink combines Weber Ranch 1902 Blue Weber Agave Vodka, guava liqueur, and fresh lime juice for a silky, citrus-forward cocktail with a natural pink hue.
La Vista Motel and El Piñon are proud participants in Denver Pride's Eating Out With Pride program, benefiting The Center on Colfax, the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. For every GiGi-a-GoGo sold throughout the month of June, $2 will be donated directly to The Center, supporting free mental health services, support groups, and dedicated programs for Denver's LGBTQ+ community. The Center on Colfax has served Colorado's LGBTQ+ community since 1976 and continues to play a pivotal role in reducing harassment and discrimination statewide.
"We are so excited to have Gary on the rooftop for Pride. El Piñon and La Vista are for everyone, and we wanted to throw an event that felt as fun and welcoming as the community we've built here,” said Nathan Beal, La Vista Motel owner. “We can't think of a better way to celebrate than disco on the patio, a pink drink in hand, and a perfect June afternoon on East Colfax.”
The event is free and open to the public. El Piñon will be open for full bar and coffee service throughout the afternoon, and the GiGi-a-GoGo will be available for the duration of the event.
